Award-winning print for the French Paper's "French at the Market" riso print competition. When reading “French at the Market” for this year's theme, I reflected on moments and elements that make a market crucial to human existence. No matter where you are in the world, humans want to trade music, food, and art. Heirloom Kin: Hymn, Harvest, and Hue is about those three elements and the need we all have to incorporate them in our communities. I wanted each sister represented by three different colors, so I picked the three I like to print with the most: blue, yellow, and bubble gum pink. I also wanted to incorporate snapshots of how Hymn, Harvest, and Hue manifest themselves in the intimate moments of a Market. A couple dancing the afternoon away, a parent sharing fresh peaches with their child, and friends fawning over new art and Zines. In the end, I believe that intertwining music, food, and art is the basis of a healthy community, and markets are the perfect embodiment of those ideas.
